Podcast: How to Overcome Your Mental Blocks to Make Progress Towards Goals

Oftentimes, we don’t achieve what we really want to in life because of mental blocks we have on ourselves. These blocks are typically subconscious beliefs that we don’t even realize we have because they’re just second nature to us. But once you’re ready to make changes in your life, you begin to notice the patterns. And you also start to notice that when you continue along with the same actions, you’re going to get the same results. When you want to change your results, you’ll have to change and with your subconscious mental blocks so you can start taking new action in your life. Change can be hard, I know. But I’ve come up with some ways to overcome mental blocks in my own life to see the changes I desire.

I consume self-help books, YouTube, and podcasts.

I’m an avid consumer of books, podcasts, and inspirational YouTube content. I hardly even watch regular television anymore. It has helped me tremendously when it comes to making changes in my life. I get to hear about how other successful people made changes and it encourages me to do the same. I’ve also noticed that they all have common threads, even in their different businesses and industries, so it’s helped me see the simple things that successful people do differently.

I change my thought patterns.

How often do you let discouraging thoughts run on repeat through your mind? “I can’t because of ____, or I don’t have _____, so it’s not possible for me, or who am I to think I can do _____?” These thoughts are simply not true. We’re wired by nature to focus on the negative (avoiding danger in the wild was brutal back in the day), but now we have to consciously work to reframe those negative/fearful thoughts into positive ones. By changing your focus, you will be more encouraged and energized to work towards your dreams.

I practice gratitude.

Again, we are wired to focus on bad things and on what’s wrong, but that’s the total opposite of what we need to be doing to live our best lives. Being grateful for what’s going well and what you love about your life is crucial for success. When you’re thankful, you feel better and you attract more good things to be grateful for. It helps you to see the good parts of your life so you can be pumped up and ready to go out and create more good things in your life.

I share selectively.

This one is huge. You can be feeling great one minute and all encouraged, but then, you share it with someone who’s filled with doubt and fear about their own life, and then they totally bring your mood down. You can’t share your aspirations and dreams, or even the things you’re doing differently to change your mindset, with everyone. Once you start shifting your focus consistently, you’ll intuitively know who is good for you to share with and who you shouldn’t speak to about it. No one is worth ruining your good mood for, so be careful who you share with.

I celebrate my small wins.

Along our paths to success, we can be so focused on our big goal that we totally overlook the small wins that are leading us up to that big goal. This makes us forget to celebrate the small wins. This is an area I need to work on, myself. You’ll feel a lot more excited about working towards your goals and having a renewed mindset when you celebrate each little step of progress you make along the way.

So that’s it. My 5 tips for overcoming mental blocks so you can live the life of your dreams and get unstuck! Thanks for listening! If you enjoyed this episode, be sure to subscribe and share it with a friend!
