Many people dream of the day when they’ll be able to quit their corporate job to do work they love full-time and get paid well for it! They’d love to have control over how they spend each day and they’d love to have a flexible schedule to fit in time with family, breaks, and self-care.

And now, during the recent pandemic, many people have gotten a taste of the “work from home life” and they’re starting to plan how they can make it permanent by creating a full-time online business that would allow them to quit their job.

Now that I’ve been running a full-time business online for two years, I’ve learned that building a full-time business isn’t as complicated as many people make it out to be. And it’s 100% possible for you, even if you’re a totally new entrepreneur who’s starting from scratch.

Creating a full-time online business is really simple when you choose to specialize in running a service-based business.

That’s because creating a full-time service-based business is the BEST and fastest type of full-time business to build, when you sell your service at a PREMIUM rate. Selling services allows you to quit your job without taking huge financial risks with becoming an entrepreneur because you’re using the knowledge and skills that you already have to generate income for yourself, which is FREE to do!

Here are the top reasons why starting a service business is the best way to go when you want to build a full-time business:

  1. You don’t need a business loan: You don’t need to take out risky business loans when you start a service-based business. There’s nothing really to pay for that would require a business loan so this is a risk that can be avoided!

  2. You don’t need employees: You can build a six figure business as a solopreneur without hiring employees, when you sell a service. This helps you avoid a ton of risk and headache that usually comes with starting brick and mortar businesses that require staff to run.

  3. You don’t need to purchase equipment: You don’t need to go out and invest in expensive equipment for your service business. You just need the knowledge and expertise that you have already and that’s the “product” that you’ll be selling!

  4. You’ll be able to work with just your laptop and wifi: Having a service business allows you to be free to work from ANYWHERE you want! You’re not “land locked” and you don’t have to live in a certain place to build a thriving business. You’ll be able to work with clients from all over the nation from the comfort of home.

  5. You don’t need to invest in physical products: Starting a product-based business can require upfront investment in the products you plan to sell sometimes, which can be a risk, because you better hope you can actually sell all the products to pay yourself back. With a service business you can avoid that!

  6. You don’t need to spend a ton of money on advertising: When you sell your services at a premium rate, you’ll be able to be profitable with a small audience online. This means, you won’t need to spend a lot of money on advertising or wait until you have like 100,000 followers on Instagram before you start making “real money” from your business. You’ll only need 2 or 3 clients a month, when you can attract and book high paying clients for your services.

As you can see, it’s practically risk-free, so the typical “failure” entrepreneur statistics don’t really apply when you sell a service! People love to talk about how “risky” entrepreneurship is, but when you sell a service online, you eliminate much of the risk involved with starting traditional brick and mortar businesses.

Since a service business is so easy to start, you could literally build a full-time service-based business and be well on your way to replacing your 9-5 income in as little as a year! Most people don’t do this because they have mindset issues slowing them down or they just don’t know what the right strategies are to execute in their business to move the needle towards attracting high paying clients — even in their early stages in business. So you may see people spending years and YEARS trying to get service based businesses off the ground, but know that if they’re doing that, it’s typically because of their mindset or executing the wrong strategies.

But with the five steps below, you’ll be able to see what you should be doing to get on track to building a full-time service business a LOT faster, so you can avoid wasting time on strategies that don’t work! Remember, it’s up to you to actually follow the steps here and to charge properly to make this your reality. People drag this process out and keep themselves stagnant for years and years because they don’t follow the five steps I’m about to overview here. Don’t allow self-doubt and overthinking things to allow you to ignore these steps — because if you do — you can expect your business to be in the same place it’s in right now a year from now!

Step One: Focus on becoming the best at ONE service.

When you’re just starting out, I get that you may have to experiment with different types of services until you figure out which on you’d like to specialize in. But once you decide which one you like the most, it’s important to let the others go and focus on specializing in one area to build a full-time business faster and here’s why…

Specializing in one type of service allows you to become a master at what you do! When you do excellent work with the services you provide, this helps you establish a strong reputation as a business owner, which is going to help you attract more clients. When you do too many different things, it’s going to be difficult for you to become the best at each of them because it’s hard to do several different things at “mastery level.”

Specializing in one type of service also allows you to establish yourself as an expert at what you do in the eyes of premium, high paying clients. Clients who are looking for a high quality expert to hire know that’s going to cost them a premium and they also know that that person should specialize in their one thing to be the best at it an to do a great job. So when you specialize you’re able to come off as a high end expert, even if you’re new! If you offer several different types of services, you’ll come off as an amateur — thus repelling the types of high end clients you want to attract.

Step Two: Let the mindset trash go.

Not getting their mindset in check is the #1 reason why people take FOREVER to build a full-time service based business! They overthink things, they procrastinate, they make excuses, and they let every little obstacle or challenge derail them from staying focused and doing the work.

But all of those mindset issues are simply standing in your way and slowing down your momentum towards creating a full-time business.

When you really, really want to create a business that can go full-time — FASTER — you MUST make a commitment to yourself to not allow your mindset trash to stop you from getting your business off the ground. Mindset issues come up for everyone — they’re inevitable — so they key to overcoming them is, expecting that they’ll come up, and when you notice them, acknowledge it as a normal part of the process, but then let it go, and continue staying focused on doing the work.

Step Three: Create a plan on what to sell, your pricing, & how you’ll get PREMIUM clients.

Too often, people fail to create full-time businesses because they don’t have concrete goals to aim for. Your most important measure of success in business is how well you’re doing at hitting your sales goals. Plan out how many clients you want to book every month. And plan what your pricing needs to be to make enough money every month to be profitable.

And as you’re doing this, create your marketing plan on how you’ll attract and book the types of clients you want. I strongly recommend selling your services at a premium rate (starting at $1,000 at a minimum and going up from there to $5,000+) because this will allow you to become profitable faster with a small audience online! You don’t need a ton of clients to say “yes” to working with you when you charge a premium for the services that you offer.

And too many people wait and wait forever until they decide to charge a premium rate, causing them to miss out on thousands of dollars. It’s not necessary to wait years until you feel “worthy enough” to charge a premium for your services. As long as you’re committed to doing great work for your clients and delivering a great client experience, you’re worthy enough of charging a premium — even if you’ve only worked with one or two people!

You just have to learn how to implement the right types of marketing and positioning strategies in your business to make your services appealing to premium clients. Premium clients have different wants and needs from cheap clients, so it’s crucial for your success in business that you learn how to “speak to” premium clients to make your services irresistible to them!

Step Four: Give yourself specific goals & deadlines to reach in your business.

Without deadlines, it’s easy to make simple tasks in your business take FOREVER to accomplish. I floundered around for about three years working on my “business” on the side of my 9-5 hardly making any money or progress because I didn’t have any specific goals or deadlines to work towards. I was in what I call “hobby mode” and over that three-ish year time period, I made less than $2,000 working on my business. But once I left the corporate world and went full-time, I had six months of savings to support myself until I got my business off the ground, so that gave me a firm deadline to work towards! And as a result, I went from hardly making any money in my business at all to making $65,000 my first calendar year in business full-time!

You can do the same in your business! Give yourself a deadline for when you’d like to hit certain income goals. Give yourself a deadline on when you’d like to be able to quit your job! This allows you to work backwards and plan what tasks you need to complete every day to accomplish your goals in time. When you have a certain date in mind, it also pushes you to keep going, even when things get tough for challenging!

Step Five: Work on your business without getting discouraged in the early days.

The early days in business are the most challenging for everyone! It’s the time when you have to build a new audience from scratch, you have to make yourself known to your ideal clients, and you can often feel like you’re talking into a void and no one is paying attention to you online. LOL

But remember, it started that way for us all. The way you become successful is by continuing to work on your business consistently, even if you feel things are too slow or challenging. That’s because if you keep starting and stopping, you literally slow down your momentum and audience growth. But if you could just stay focused on doing your marketing for six months to a year consistently — it makes a world of difference in being able to create a full-time business fast!

In conclusion —

If you start with executing these five steps right now — choosing a service to specialize in, getting your mindset in check, creating a plan for what you plan to sell and at what price and learning how to attract high paying clients, giving yourself deadlines and goals, and working on your business consistently — you could be quitting your job this time next year (or sooner!).

But if you choose not to do these things, remember you’ll continue to delay your progress and it’ll take you years and years to create the full-time business you’re longing for, when it should really only take a few months. Don’t let any of the most common excuses get in your way — like saying now isn’t a good time or telling yourself there’s something you need to do/accomplish first before you start or thinking everything needs to be “perfect” before you can get started — NONE of that stuff has to stand in your way, when you know what steps to execute and you commit to doing the work!
