Overcoming Fear as an Entrepreneur

Overcoming Fear as an Entrepreneur

I see SO many immensely talented people out there who are just letting their potential go to waste because of FEAR that keeps them stuck in the same place, year after year. Being stuck in fear can completely stagnate your business and your life, if you don't figure out how to push through it! So here, I’m sharing three strategies for overcoming fear as an entrepreneur and boosting your confidence, so you can accelerate your progress in your business.

Get clear on exactly why you want to start a business in the first place.

When you're super clear on why you're starting your business, it makes overcoming fear as an entrepreneur much easier to do.

Many people look at entrepreneurs online, thinking it looks cool, but they don’t get take the time to get clarity within themselves on WHY they even want to be entrepreneurs. So you must get clarity on why having a business even matters to you. Ask yourself questions like…

  • How is a business going to change your life?

  • What will the money from the business do for you?

  • Do you want to be able to take more vacations because of your business?

  • Do you want to be able to save more for retirement because of your business?

  • Do you want to be able to give more money to your kids for their education, as a result of your business?

Get clarity on your “why” for starting a business first, because if you don’t have clarity here, it’s going to be really easy to get stuck in fear!

Plus, starting a business takes a LOT of effort. I can’t even sugarcoat that! So for you to stay motivated to get the work done, day in and day out, you need to remind yourself of your “why.” And that will motivate you to keep going and push through fear of failure and judgement.

Get clarity on how your work in your business impacts your clients.

When you understand how your work impacts your clients, this also helps in overcoming fear of failure as an entrepreneur! Because when you think about things from that perspective…you’ll have to ask yourself, “What will happen if I hide all my talent and keep my gifts to myself?”

If you don't share your gifts with people who need you, you’re actually doing a disservice to people who could be benefiting from what you have to offer. So when you get clear on the impact that your work is making on others, then fear of failure and judgment suddenly becomes small because you're on a mission to make a major, meaningful impact on other people.

Be realistic & remember that people who are doing the most judging usually aren’t doing very much in their own lives.

Most of the time, when you really take a look at people who do most of the trolling and judging in the online world, who make you scared of “failing in front of them” — those are the types of people who aren’t even working on anything major online themselves.

So you don't want to take any criticism or advice from people aren’t even doing what you’re trying to do! When you're someone who's a hard worker and going after what you want, the last thing you should be doing is letting people who are sitting around being stagnant and unhappy in life make you terrified of failing because they may judge you.

Always remind yourself that people who are also go-getters, like you, are typically more positive, encouraging people, who are too busy to be sitting around criticizing other. So those are the types of people who you want to be associated with and paying attention to anyway.

So don't let any criticism from people, who are not doing the work like you are, stop you from overcoming fear as an entrepreneur!

Overcoming fear as an entrepreneur is realizing that failing is just a part of the game in business & in life.

Sometimes we really have to just toughen up and we can't be so sensitive in life! (So this is where my tough love comes out. :))

If you walk through life, timid and afraid, you’re going to wake up at like 80 years old and think, “Oh my God, I wasted my life! And I didn't do what I really wanted to do.” You must shift your perspective to make the fear of not living the life that you really want to live, become greater than the fear of possibly failing.

If you look at the success story of any entrepreneur or really just any successful person in society overall, they did a lot of things along the way that failed. Lots of people have gotten fired before. People have had to shut businesses down. Some people go bankrupt. Some had to audition hundreds of times, dealing with rejection after rejection, before they finally got cast in the movie role of their dreams.

Nobody's journey in life is just completely clear failure. So you can't let failures derail you.

It's okay to have maybe a couple of sad days to recover from something that was a failure for you, but you have to get back in the game to continue in pursuit of your ultimate goal and purpose, when you’re overcoming the fear of failure as an entrepreneur.

So having resiliency is a necessary trait that any successful person needs to have in life. Oftentimes, when you compare people who are successful to the ones who aren’t, the ones who aren’t successful are typically people who were quick to give up quick and get discouraged. Whereas successful people are the ones who persevere and keep going to push through no matter what.

Everyone is afraid when they start something new, especially when it comes to starting a business. When I left my 9-5, two years ago, I was terrified! But overcoming the fear of failure as an entrepreneur was something that I was determined to do. And now looking back, the things that I thought were scary then aren’t even scary anymore!

So in conclusion, you just have to move forward and do the things that scare you now, because when you look back in a few years, you'll laugh at the things that you used to be scared of. You cannot let fear stop you, no matter what!
